Improving Cape Light Compact’s energy efficiency program offerings to its C&I customers

“The MCR consultant was incredibly adept at facilitation. He was great at making our customers feel comfortable really quickly. I couldn’t have asked someone to be a better facilitator. He showed a lot of situational awareness…you need to have that local context.”

– Compact Administrator

Background

The Cape Light Compact is a municipal aggregator that serves as the energy efficiency program administrator to the towns and counties of Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. While successfully promoting and administering programs for over a decade, Cape Light Compact wanted to identify opportunities for increasing participation of commercial & industrial (C&I) customers in its energy efficiency offerings.

Solution

MCR developed secondary market research from the client’s systems and publicly available data, and performed a segmentation of the C&I customer population. Drawing on the segmentation, we defined specific customer groups and facilitated a series of focus groups with these customers to better understand their motivations and needs.

Results

The results of the analysis integrated the secondary research and focus group findings with MCR’s best practice program design, marketing and outreach information. The final report was filed with the Department of Public Utilities. It has served as a reference to a number of company filings and used in interactions with regulators and other stakeholders to provide greater insights to the company’s customer base and operations.
