The utility industry is witnessing an unprecedented electro-technology revolution – both on the supply (generation) side and the demand (customer end-products) side. This rise of electro-technology products and services holds the possibility of simultaneously providing significant benefits to utility customers and utility shareholders. Unfortunately, utilities have a mixed history, at best, with respect to the development and launch of new products and services. Will this time be any different? It could be, or perhaps for the survival of some, it has to be different, but it will require a disciplined approach to determining what products and services to offer and how to offer them in a way that satisfies customers and makes money for the utility.
